Maximizing the Growth and Production of Pare with the Composition of Planting Media and Liquid Organic Fertilizer

Introduction

The growth and production of pare (Momordica Charantia L.) are influenced by various factors, including the composition of planting media and the administration of liquid organic fertilizer. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in using organic fertilizers to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce the environmental impact of conventional farming practices. However, the effectiveness of liquid organic fertilizers in improving crop yields and growth is still a topic of debate.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of different compositions of planting media and the administration of liquid organic fertilizer on the growth and production of pare. The research was conducted in the USU Faculty of Agriculture Research Land, using a factorial random group design with three replications. The results of this study provide valuable insights into the optimal composition of planting media and the right dose of liquid organic fertilizer for maximizing pare growth and production.

Materials and Methods

The research was conducted in the USU Faculty of Agriculture Research Land, which is located about 25 meters above sea level. The study was conducted during the April to July 2016 period, using a factorial random group design with three replications. The first factor was the composition of planting media, which consisted of three types:

M1: Ultisol: Cow Manure: Husk 2: 1: 1: This treatment used a combination of ultisol, cow manure, and husk in a ratio of 2:1:1.
M2: Ultisol: Chicken Manure: Husk 2: 1: 1: This treatment used a combination of ultisol, chicken manure, and husk in a ratio of 2:1:1.
M3: Ultisol: Compost: Husk 2: 1: 1: This treatment used a combination of ultisol, compost, and husk in a ratio of 2:1:1.

The second factor was the administration of liquid organic fertilizer, which consisted of four levels of treatment:

P0: 0 ml/liter of water: This treatment did not receive any liquid organic fertilizer.
P1: 2 ml/liter of water: This treatment received 2 ml of liquid organic fertilizer per liter of water.
P2: 4 ml/liter of water: This treatment received 4 ml of liquid organic fertilizer per liter of water.
P3: 6 ml/liter of water: This treatment received 6 ml of liquid organic fertilizer per liter of water.

The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, number of primary branches, flowering dates, number of fruit, fruit length, fruit diameter, fresh weight, canopy dry weight, root dry weight, and normal fruit percentage.

Results

The results of this study showed that the composition of planting media had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, number of primary branches, flowering dates, number of fruits, fresh weight of fruit, canopy dry weight, and root dry weight. The best treatment was obtained in the composition of M2 planting media (ultisol: Chicken Manure: Husk 2: 1: 1).

The administration of liquid organic fertilizer did not significantly affect all observed parameters. The best treatment for liquid organic fertilizer was P2 (4 ml/liter of water).

The interaction between the composition of planting media and the administration of liquid organic fertilizer also did not significantly affect all parameters. The best combination was obtained in the treatment of M2 (ultisol: Chicken Manure: Husk 2: 1: 1) with the administration of liquid organic fertilizer P2 (4 ml/liter of water).

Discussion

This study provides evidence that the composition of planting media has a significant influence on pare growth and production. The use of chicken manure in planting media is proven to increase growth and yields. Although the administration of liquid organic fertilizer does not show a significant effect, the dose of P2 (4 ml/liter of water) shows better results.

The results of this study can be a reference for farmers in choosing the composition of planting media and the right dose of liquid organic fertilizer to increase crop yields. However, it is essential to remember that the results of this study are specific to the land conditions and the pare varieties used. To get optimal results, further research needs to be done by considering other factors such as varieties, climate, and soil conditions.
