This study was conducted with a cross-sectional approach at the Central H. Adam Malik and Regional General Hospital Dr. Pirngadi Medan from June to December 2011. Patients with systolic and diastolic dysfunction were evaluated through anamnese, physical examination, electrocardiography, and measuring Cystatin C serum. Furthermore, an analysis was performed to connect the results of Cystatin C measurements with each type of ventricular dysfunction.

Of the total 35 patients analyzed, there were 13 patients with systolic dysfunction and 22 patients with diastolic dysfunction. Demographic characteristics between the two groups were almost the same, including age, gender, body mass index, hemoglobin, creatinine, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Although the serum C Cystatin value in the systolic dysfunction group was higher than the diastolic dysfunction group (1.22 ± 0.39 mg/l vs. 1.17 ± 0.43 mg/l, p = 0.76), this difference did not reach statistical significance level. The correlation between Cystatin C serum levels with systolic and diastolic dysfunction also showed insignificant results (R = -0.09, P = 0.75 and R = -0.13, P = 0.54).

Conclusion

Based on the results of this study, no significant relationship was found between the left ventricular dysfunction with early-stage kidney function impaired, which was considered using Cystatin C. Although there were differences in the Cystatin C Serum value between the two groups, the difference was not strong enough to show a statistically significant correlation. Further research is needed to explore other factors that may affect the relationship between ventricular dysfunction and kidney function.
