Introduction

In the world of business, every company has its own set of rules and guidelines that govern its operations. However, the gap between these rules and their implementation can lead to an imbalance that affects the company's performance and reputation. This is particularly true for Islamic banks, which are required to adhere to Sharia principles in their financial dealings. This study aims to investigate the implementation of Mudharabah Muqayyadah financing, a micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) financing scheme, at Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tanjung Balai Branch.

Background

Islamic banks operate on the principles of Sharia, which prohibit the collection and payment of interest (riba) and emphasize fairness and transparency in financial transactions. Mudharabah Muqayyadah financing is a type of Islamic financing that involves a partnership between the bank and the entrepreneur, where the bank provides financing to the entrepreneur in exchange for a share of the profits. This type of financing is popular among MSMEs, which often lack access to traditional financing channels.

Methodology

This study was conducted at Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tanjung Balai Branch in April-May 2010. The researcher collected secondary data through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The data was analyzed by comparing the basic concepts of Mudharabah Muqayyadah financing with its implementation in the field.

Results

The results of this study showed that the concept of Mudharabah Muqayyadah financing at Bank Muamalat Indonesia was guided by the Fatwa of the National Sharia Council No. 07/DSN/MUI/IV/2000. However, there were several cases that were not in accordance with the implementation of concepts, particularly in terms of profit sharing and guarantees. The study found that the bank's implementation of Mudharabah Muqayyadah financing was influenced by the conventional national banking system, which still dominates the banking industry in Indonesia.

This study made a significant contribution in understanding the implementation of Mudharabah Muqayyadah financing at Bank Muamalat Indonesia. The results of this study can be an input for banks to continue to improve service quality and ensure compliance with Sharia principles in running their business.
