Introduction

Materials and Methods

The synthesis of semi-IPN hydrogel involved the mixing of bacterial cellulose (SB) suspended in a Peg-1000/NaOH solution with acrylic acid (AA) as monomers, Potassium Persulfate (KPS) as the initiator, and N, N'-methylenbisacrylamide (MBA) as a cross binder. The resulting semi-IPN hydrogel was then characterized by various techniques, including FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, and DSC.

Results

The results showed that the addition of 600 mg of bacterial cellulose in the synthesis process produced semi-IPN hydrogel with water absorption and the optimal degree of crossing, namely 1338.11% and 46.62%. This shows that SB plays an important role in increasing the ability of hydrogel to absorb water and maintain its structure.

FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of cross bonds between acrylic acid (AA) and N, N'-methylenbisacrylamide (MBA) in wave numbers 1555 cm-1, which indicated the presence of aliphatic amine groups (n-H). The existence of this cross bond is a key in forming a strong and stable three-dimensional tissue structure in hydrogel.

SEM observations show a rough and dense semi-IPN hydrogel surface. This indicates that the hydrogel structure has interconnected pores, which can increase the ability of the hydrogel to absorb water and hold other molecules.

The thermal resistance test using DSC shows the temperature of semi-IPN hydrogel decomposition reaches 463.99 °C. This means that hydrogel has high thermal stability, so the potential to be applied in extreme environmental conditions.
