The Effect of Rain, Fertilization, and Number of Bunches on Oil Palm Productivity in the Gunung Para Garden of PT. Nusantara Plantation III

Introduction

Oil palm plantations play a crucial role in the global economy, with Indonesia being one of the largest producers of palm oil. The productivity of oil palm plants is influenced by various environmental factors and agricultural management practices. This study aims to evaluate the effect of rain, fertilization, and number of bunches on oil palm productivity in several years of planting at PT. Nusantara III Plantation Gunung Para. The data used in this study are secondary data that includes oil palm productivity and the number of bunches from 2016 to 2020, rainfall data, monthly rainy days data, and NPK and Mg fertilization data from 2015 to 2019.

Methodology

The method applied in this study is multiple linear regression analysis and correlation analysis, with the use of SPSS version 22 software for Windows. The results of the analysis showed that the rainfall variable and the number of bunches had a significant influence on oil palm productivity in the years under study, namely 2016 to 2020, with a significance level in Alpha 5%. Meanwhile, NPK and MG fertilization does not show a significant effect on productivity in that period.

Analysis of Research Results

The results of the correlation analysis show that oil palm plants planted in 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2003 have a strong relationship between rainfall, rainy days, and the number of bunches to the productivity of fresh fruit bunches (FFB). For plants in 1997, the correlation value found was 0.905; 0.858; and 0.953, which shows a very strong relationship. Furthermore, for 1998, the correlation value was 0.864; 0.816; and 0.959, also showing a strong relationship. Plants in 2000 have a correlation with a value of 0.839; 0.828; and 0.967, and in 2003, the correlation value ranged from 0.617; 0.691; and 0.939, which is quite strong.

On the other hand, NPK and MG fertilization also shows a very strong and strong correlation to FFB productivity, with correlation values reaching 0.942 and 0.870. This shows that although not directly significantly effect on regression analysis, the right fertilizer remains an important element in supporting the growth of oil palm plants.

This suggests that the number of bunches is a critical factor in determining oil palm productivity, and garden managers should optimize the number of bunches to enhance oil palm productivity.

The Role of Fertilization in Oil Palm Productivity

Fertilization is an important element in supporting the growth of oil palm plants, and the results of this study show that NPK and MG fertilization have a strong correlation to FFB productivity, with correlation values reaching 0.942 and 0.870, respectively. Although not directly significantly effect on regression analysis, fertilization remains an important factor in oil palm productivity, and garden managers should pay attention to the type and amount of fertilizer used to support the growth of oil palm plants.

Conclusion

Overall, this study shows that factors such as rainfall and the number of bunches have a more dominant role in increasing oil palm productivity compared to fertilization. This result is important for the garden manager in planning the oil palm cultivation strategy going forward. By paying attention to the pattern of rainfall and optimizing the number of bunches, oil palm productivity at PT. Nusantara III Plantation Para Gunung Para Garden can be further enhanced. This provides valuable insights for the development of more sustainable and efficient agronomic practices in the palm oil industry.
