The Influence of Health Service Providers and Consumer Factors on the Re-Utilization of Depression Patients in the Mental Health Polyclinic of the Level II Hijau Hijau Kesdam I Bukit Barisan Medan

Introduction

Mental health conditions, particularly depression, are often influenced by various factors. Research at the Mental Health Polyclinic of Putri Hijau Hijau Hospital Kesdam I Bukit Barisan Medan has shown an increase in the number of patients who do not return to visit, from 59.3% in 2012 to 64.0% in 2013. This indicates that there are still challenges in the utilization of mental health services, especially for patients who experience depression. This study aims to analyze the effect of health service providers and consumer factors on the desire of depressed patients to return to visiting the mental health clinic.

Methodology

In this study, data was collected from 427 patients with mild to moderate depression who had visited the polyclinic. Of these, 81 patients were randomly chosen to become research samples. Data collection was carried out through interviews using a questionnaire and then analyzed using multiple logistics regression with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results of the analysis show that the factors of health service providers, such as the attitude of health workers, the availability of drugs, and additional services, as well as consumer factors, including perceptions of diseases, services, and clinical diagnoses, have a positive and significant influence on the desire of patients to return to visiting polyclinics Green Princess Mental Health.

Results

The results of the study show that the factors of health service providers and consumer factors have a significant influence on the re-utilization of depressed patients. Among all factors, perception of disease is proven to be the most influential variable. The attitude of health workers is very important in creating comfort for patients. Good communication between doctors and patients can increase the patient's trust to receive treatment again. Therefore, it is important for hospital management to provide effective communication training to medical personnel.

In addition, the availability of adequate drugs and additional services such as counseling is also an important factor. Patients with depression tend to look for social and emotional support, so that the existence of counselors and comfortable counseling spaces will make them feel more valued and cared for. Proper education regarding depression, treatment, and mental care process needs to be done so that patients understand their conditions and feel more motivated to return to treatment.

Discussion

The results of this study are consistent with previous studies that have shown the importance of health service providers and consumer factors in the re-utilization of patients with depression. The attitude of health workers, the availability of drugs, and additional services such as counseling are all important factors that can influence the desire of patients to return to visiting the mental health clinic. The perception of disease is also a crucial factor, as patients with depression tend to look for social and emotional support.

The community must be more aware of mental health, so that negative stigma of depressed patients can be minimized. Management at Putri Hijau Hospital should also increase health promotion to provide information and support individually and in groups to patients who experience depression. This not only helps in the recovery of patients, but can also increase community understanding of the importance of mental health.

Conclusion

In conclusion, health service providers and consumer factors have a significant influence on the re-utilization of depressed patients. By improving service quality and paying attention to patient perceptions, it is hoped that patients will be more motivated to continue to visit and get the necessary treatment. This is an important step to improve the overall mental health of the community.

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size was relatively small, which may limit the generalizability of the results. Secondly, the study only focused on patients with mild to moderate depression, which may not be representative of all patients with depression. Finally, the study only analyzed the effect of health service providers and consumer factors on the re-utilization of depressed patients, and did not explore other factors that may influence patient re-utilization.
