The Effect of Audit Quality, Audit Tenure, Audit Report Lag, and Profitability on the Opinion of Going Concern Audit in Manufacturing Companies Listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the Period 2010-2013

Introduction

The opinion of going concern audit is a crucial aspect of financial reporting, as it provides stakeholders with an assessment of a company's ability to continue operating in the long term. In the context of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the opinion of going concern audit can have significant implications for investors, regulators, and the companies themselves. This study aims to investigate the effect of audit quality, audit tenure, audit report lag, and profitability on the opinion of going concern audit in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2010-2013.

Methodology

This study uses secondary data in the form of financial statements and independent audit reports published at www.idx.co.id. The research sample consisted of 20 manufacturing companies selected by purposive sampling from the population of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The analysis method used is quantitative descriptive with logistics regression to test hypotheses.

Audit Quality

Audit quality is a critical factor in determining the opinion of going concern audit. Measured using the proxy variable specialization of the auditor industry, the results showed that auditors with high industrial specialization tend to provide better business continuity audit opinions. This suggests that auditors with industrial specialties have a better understanding of manufacturing companies, so as to assess the risk of business continuity with more accurate.

Audit Report Lag

Audit report lag is another important factor that can affect the opinion of going concern audit. Measured by the time difference between the balance sheet date and the date of the audit report, the results showed that the longer the delay of audit reports, the more likely the company would receive doubtful business continuity audit opinion. This can be caused by several factors, such as the problem in the audit process, lack of information transparency, or even data manipulation.

Audit Tenure

Audit tenure is the length of time an auditor serves as an independent auditor of a company. The results showed that the term of office of the auditor did not have a significant influence on the audit opinion of business continuity. This suggests that the term of office of the auditor is not a determining factor in determining the quality of the audit.

Profitability

Profitability is a key indicator of a company's financial health. Measured with a net profit margin ratio, the results showed that the company's profitability did not have a significant influence on business audit opinion. This might be caused by other more dominant factors, such as liquidity, cash flow, and capital structure, in determining the risk of business continuity.
