Comparison Analysis of Concentrated Winding and Toroidal Winding in the Three Phase Permanent Magnetic Axial Flux Magnet (AFPM) generator using an iron core on the stator

Introduction

The world is facing an increasing demand for efficient and environmentally friendly energy sources. Renewable energy has emerged as a primary alternative to meet this challenge. Among the various renewable energy sources, the Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generator has gained significant attention due to its ability to harness energy from wind and water. The AFPM generator is designed with a stator without a core using concentrated winding configuration. However, this study aims to compare two types of stator configurations that use iron core, namely concentrated winding and toroidal winding.

From the results of these tests, it can be concluded that the Concentrated Winding configuration is superior compared to Toroidal Winding in terms of efficiency and output power. However, the fundamental difference between the two configurations lies in the method of generating magnetic fields and magnetic flux arrangements.

Concentrated winding, with a simpler design, allows electric current to flow more effectively, produce larger magnetic flux per unit area. This means that for the same size and weight, generators with concentrated winding configuration can produce higher power.
