Introduction

Heat Cured acrylic resin is a widely used material in dentistry, particularly in the production of bite plates. Its popularity stems from its ease of use and the fact that it can be easily molded and shaped to fit the patient's mouth. However, the surface roughness of this material can be a concern, especially when it comes into contact with cleaning solutions. In this study, we aim to evaluate the changes in the roughness of the surface of the Heat Cured acrylic plate after being soaked in a cleaning solution with a different frequency.

Background

Heat Cured acrylic resin is an ethylene derivative that has a vinyl group in its chemical structure. The polymerization process of this material is activated through heat, making it the first choice in making bite plates. On the other hand, the Effervescent Tablet Solution Cleaning Bitituan consists of materials that produce gas bubbles when dissolved, one of which is the sodium bicarbonate which is known to be abrasive. This study aims to evaluate changes in the roughness of the surface of the Heat Cured acrylic plate after being soaked in a cleaning solution with a different frequency, which is 15, 30, and 45 times.

Materials and Methods

In this experimental laboratory research, time series design is used to observe differences that occur. The sample studied was a square cured acrylic resin with a dimension of 12 mm long and width and 2 mm thickness. As many as 10 samples were tested with a 5-minute immersion frequency treatment with a variation of the frequency. To measure the surface roughness, the Profiletometer Roughness Test before and after treatment is used. Data analysis was carried out by the One Way Anova method.

Results

The results showed that the surface roughness of the sample before being soaked was 0.17200 μm. After being soaked by 15 times, the roughness increased to 0.18100 μm. With a frequency of 30 times, the value of roughness becomes 0.23100 μm, and after 45 times soaking, the roughness value reaches 0.28000 μm. One way anova analysis results show a significant difference (p <0.05) between groups before and after immersion at each frequency.

Discussion

From this finding, it can be concluded that the immersion in the solution of the effervescent tablet cleaner bitituan affects the increase in the roughness of the surface of the acrylic resin. This increase in roughness is increasingly significant in line with the increase in immersion frequency. This shows the importance of considering the length of immersion when using this cleaner, especially for practitioners who use the acrylic heat cured.

Conclusion

This study opens opportunities for further studies regarding the interaction between cleaning agents and other dental materials, as well as its impact on dental and oral health. The results of this study can be used as a reference for dental practitioners to choose the right cleaning solution and to consider the length of immersion when using this cleaner. Furthermore, this study can be used as a basis for further research on the effects of cleaning agents on dental materials and their impact on oral health.
