Introduction

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the global health system, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Since 2020, the phenomenon of post-Covid-19 syndrome has become a growing concern, affecting not only the lungs but also the quality of life of survivors. This syndrome is characterized by shortness of breath, prolonged fatigue, and a range of other debilitating symptoms that can significantly impact daily activities. In this study, we aim to investigate the factors related to the quality of life, degrees of tightness, and fatigue in the survivors of Covid-19 at the General Hospital of the Adam Malik Hajj Center.

Background

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a global health crisis, with millions of people infected and thousands of lives lost. The pandemic has also had a significant impact on the mental and physical health of survivors, with many experiencing long-term effects such as post-Covid-19 syndrome. This syndrome is a complex condition that affects not only the lungs but also the quality of life, causing shortness of breath, fatigue, and a range of other debilitating symptoms. In this study, we aim to investigate the factors related to the quality of life, degrees of tightness, and fatigue in the survivors of Covid-19 at the General Hospital of the Adam Malik Hajj Center.

Methodology

This study is an analytic study with a latitude cut design. Data was collected through interviews and questionnaires analyzed using the Chi-Square method with SPSS 25 software. Participants in this study were health workers at the Adam Malik Hajj Center General Hospital, who were survivors of Covid-19 from 2020 to 2022. The study aimed to investigate the factors related to the quality of life, degrees of tightness, and fatigue in the survivors of Covid-19.

Research Result

The study found that most of the survivors of Covid-19 were women (86%), with the most age groups in the range of 31-45 years (45%). In addition, 42% of participants had a comorbid condition that already existed, while 25% had a treatment history. Post-Covid-19 syndrome was found in 76% of participants. The study also found that 5% of participants experienced changes in the quality of life in the dimensions of pain or discomfort with mild levels (2%) and moderate (2%). In addition, 4% experienced anxiety or mild depression.

To measure the degree of shortness of breath of the survivors, the MMRC scale was used, which showed that 23% experienced shortness of breath, with 6% at moderate levels, and 2% at weight levels. This study found a significant relationship between the degree of shortness of breath and post-COVID-19 syndrome (p = 0.006). Persistent fatigue was detected in 28% of participants, with 1% experiencing extreme fatigue. This fatigue showed a significant relationship with a history of oxygen use (p = 0.010) and the presence of post-Covid-19 syndrome (p = 0.041).

Conclusion

From this study, no factors were found directly related to the quality of life of the survivors of Covid-19. However, the history of oxygen use was proven to have a significant relationship with the degree of shortness of breath. In addition, a history of Covid-19, the use of oxygen, and post-COVID-19 syndrome found have a significant relationship with the level of fatigue after being infected with COVID-19.

This study provides a better understanding of the challenges faced by Covid-19 survivors, especially in the context of health workers who struggle at the forefront. This finding is important to develop the appropriate rehabilitation and psychological support strategies for those who experience long-term impacts after being infected with viruses. Therefore, increasing awareness and sustainable monitoring for survivors is very important to facilitate their recovery holistically.
