Introduction

The quality of water sources in the community is often decreased due to pollution caused by various activities, including household and industrial waste. In Teungoh Village, Langsa Kota District, this problem is a serious concern due to lack of access to clean water that is not contaminated. This triggers health effects, especially on the skin, such as dermatitis. This study aims to analyze the influence of demographic characteristics, river water use, and water chemical parameters on dermatitis in river water users in the region.

Background

Water pollution is a significant problem in many parts of the world, including Indonesia. The lack of access to clean water and the presence of pollutants in water sources can have serious health effects, including dermatitis. Dermatitis is a skin condition that can be caused by exposure to contaminated water, and it is a common problem in communities where access to clean water is limited.

Research Methodology

This study uses a survey design with a cross-sectional approach, which was carried out from February to August 2016. The research sample consisted of 45 respondents who were people who live around the watershed and routinely use river water. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistics regression, with a confidence level of 95%.

The results showed a significant relationship between respondents' knowledge about the frequency of river water exposure and the incidence of dermatitis. The frequency of river water exposure is the most dominant factor affecting the occurrence of dermatitis. This shows that the more often individuals are exposed to contaminated river water, the greater the risk they experience skin problems.

Recommendation

From the results of the study, it is recommended that health workers, the government, and the community play an active role in improving the degree of environmental health. These efforts include conducting counseling on health, monitoring water quality, and infrastructure development for the supply of clean water. With these steps, it is hoped that public health in Teungoh Village can be maintained and the problem of dermatitis can be minimized.

In conclusion, this study found that demographic characteristics, river water utilization, and water chemical parameters are significant factors in the occurrence of dermatitis in river water users in Teungoh Village, Langsa Kota District.
